A full renovation of a top-floor Georgian apartment
Nestled in a nine-bay classical tenement on Edinburgh's prestigious India Street, we completely remodelled the tired apartment to create a stylish living space.

Brief
The client had recently purchased the property and enlisted David Blaikie Architects to completely remodel the apartment whilst retaining its Georgian character and charm. The apartment was previously unfit for a young, growing family.
Execution
Our initial works involved a complete structural redesign. We moved a number of internal walls to create an open-plan layout, more suited to contemporary living standards. The open-plan living and kitchen area is now the heart of the home; where the family spend most of their time. The sleek and contemporary kitchen is from Kitchens International and the bespoke bathroom from Napier Bathrooms.
Our team created profiles of the skirting boards, architraves and other mouldings and created exact replicas. You’d never know that these hadn’t been there all along. We re-plastered the walls and ceilings; the ornate cornicing throughout the apartment was re-cast and fitted to match the existing design. We also replaced the radiators throughout.
An essential component of the renovation was to ensure it satisfied contemporary living standards. The entire property is connected to Sonos, the ultimate home sound system, and the heating is controlled remotely by NEST.
Various grey paints from Farrow & Ball were used throughout; the perfect accompaniment to the various fabrics, furniture and fixtures.
