A full renovation of a 4-storey Georgian townhouse

Celebrating its Georgian heritage, we reinvigorated this home through a series of sensitive restorations and contemporary additions.

Brief

This property was in dire condition. The client wanted to reinvigorate its original features and bring a new lease of life into each room. An integral part of the brief was ensuring it was relevant in the present moment, the here and now. The home accommodates and supports various aspects of the client’s lifestyle.

Execution

This home’s layout and flow was completely reconsidered in order to ensure it supported the way our client wanted to live. There are three spaces that dominate: the main drawing room, the kitchen/dining area and the basement wine cellar and bar. The first, complete with 3-bay windows, is highly impressive. We installed a new sandstone fireplace and relaid the flooring—it’s a beautiful parquet, complete with a strip of solid brass perimeter. For us, the execution was all in the detail.

Throughout, all of the cornicing, architraves, mouldings, skirtings, woodwork and ironmongery was restored and replaced. Furthering the notion of craftsmanship, we were delighted to partner with Peden & Pringle on this project (we’ve worked with them on multiple projects in the past, such as Ann Street and Greenhill Park). They made and installed cabinetry for the utility, wardrobes for the master bedroom and storage for the bar.

The basement was previously unused. We tanked it to ensure it was a joyful, relaxing space to spend time in. Here, it houses a wine cellar and a bar—ideal for entertaining friends and family. The Crittall-style doors really fit the look and feel of this alternative, fun space.

Upstairs, the client can also entertain in the sprawling kitchen/dining area. The kitchen is bespoke; we fitted it. The bathrooms are sourced from a myriad of places—Mandarin Stone, Crosswater and Porter, to name a few. There’s stylish lighting throughout, which really adds to the ambiance of the space.

The property was completely rewired; new plumbing and heating was installed throughout.
