We conducted a full renovation of a top floor flat, nestled in a nine-bay classical tenement on Edinburgh's prestigious India Street. The client had recently purchased the property and provided a design brief to fully remodel the tired flat and to create a stylish living space that would work for a young family, whilst retaining its Georgian charm and character.
Expertly designed by award-winning architect David Blaikie, we worked closely with the client and the design team to execute the brief. Initial works involved a structural redesign: moving a number of internal walls to create a more open-plan layout, suitable for twenty-first century living. The original cornicing, windows and shutters were sympathetically restored and all of the new features, such as radiators, skirtings and architraves, were in keeping with the Georgian style.
A key component of the restoration was to bring it into 2018 and meet today's living standards. The entire property is connected to Sonos, the ultimate home sound system, and the heating is controlled by NEST. The open-plan living and kitchen area is now the heart of the home, where the family spend most of their time. The sleek and contemporary kitchen is from Kitchens International and the bespoke bathroom from Napier Bathrooms. The living room was restored to its former glory, which included a new ceiling rose, revamped cornicing and a stunning chandelier. A stylish palette of greys from Farrow & Ball was used in each room to perfectly accompany the patterns, fabrics, furniture and fixtures throughout.
